Mediterranean tourism in figures

Objective of the Forum

The Mediterranean is the most visited tourist destination in the world. It is the world’s oldest and largest tourist area, receiving around 200 million national and international visitors every year.

It accounts for a quarter of the world’s hotel capacity, 30% of global tourism receipts and 40% of international arrivals. The excellent health of world tourism is mainly due to Mediterranean destinations. Described by the UNWTO as the “engine of growth”, they have all seen strong growth. The countries of the Mediterranean are experiencing strong growth, estimated at over 15%.

The Forum aims to be a meeting place for decision-makers, players and stakeholders in Mediterranean tourism. The 10th edition of the Forum, to be held in Fez, will aim to:

  1. Discuss the creation of a Mediterranean tourism identity;
  2. Studying the possibility of developing joint offers and products in the region (several destinations in the same programme);
  3. Discuss international tourism promotion strategies;
  4. Network travel agents to better promote tourism in the region;
  5. Position the CCISFM as a key player in supporting operators in the Mediterranean;
  6. Promoting tourism potential;
  7. Raise awareness among officials in participating countries of the need to facilitate the transit of tourists;
